What preparation do we need to do in order to PAT test?

In order to commence PAT testing your appliances we need to arrange a convenient time to visit your business.  We need to test your appliances when they are  not in use.   Please do not hesitate to contact me with your requirements. There is no other preparation required other than gathering verbal information in order to  assess your environment to ensure it is  safe to carry out the testing (Some testing is required every 3 months!). 

What inspections on portable appliances are done?

I will check damage to the flex, plug and casing and note any overheating, burn marks and discolouration.  I will check to see if your plugs are wired incorrectly and ensure the correct fuse rates are insitu. A series of electrical tests are performed dependant upon the portable electrical appliances class of electricity. 

Will appliances need to be unplugged prior to testing?

Yes. 


What will I receive? 

Oncompletion of PAT testing you will receive a report that contains the following:  
  • An inventory containing each appliance type, name, location and a description.
  • A full set of test results for each appliance tested.
  • A full list of any failed items with an explanation of their failure.
  • A visible pass or fail label on each appliance detailing the inspection date, next test due and my signature.

What if my portable electrical appliance fails the PAT test?

If your appliance fails the test, it may be due to a small  electrical repairs which I am able to do during the visit for a small additional fee.  You may wish to make your own arrangements for repair and I can arrange to visit your buisness in order to  re test your appliance  at a convenient time to your business.

How often will my portable electrical appliances require re testing?

This depends upon the class of electrical appliance and  environment in which it is used.   I am able to offer advice  on how best to manage this and costs for future testing.  A scheduled follow up visit can be arranged at a convenient time to suit your needs.
